The Gameplan

Argenport is a classic go-tall strategy, where you play units and buff them with weapons.  Force your opponent to double-block and blow them out with instant speed pump spells or removal spells.

How do you get into the deck?

This is not a deck that you can “force.”  The deck is synergy based and suffers if you do not have enough of the key pieces.  You’ll know the deck is open if you see any of the following uncommons after pick 4-5 and commons after pick 6-7.  It’s best to approach the deck from Shadow first due mostly to extract.  Multiple extracts in pack one mean that Shadow is wide open.  If you see Slay pick it.

What to prioritize in Pack 2

This is the first pack where you will not encounter any Argenport dual cards.  The Empty Throne was focused on the allied color pairs (Rakano, Elysian, Feln, Stonescar and Combrei) and you will need to focus on individual Justice and Shadow cards.  Luckily there are a ton of great combat tricks and weapons here, along with some very playable units.  Pack two is also your first chance to pick up Executes, which you should pick over almost everything but the highest tier bombs.  Try to pay attention to what seems open in this pack and what you might want to splash.

Packs 3 & 4

The last two packs should be focused on filling the holes in your curve, picking up removal and grabbing what fixing you can find for your splash.  If you do not have any fliers yet you should prioritize them now.  Argenport can fall victim to board stalls, where your units are bigger, but you don’t have good attacks.  When this happens the opponent can easily go wider than you and steal a win.  Having a few flyers or ways to make your units unblock-able is extremely important and allows you to push through the last few points of damage.

Subthemes – Sacrifice

There are a few subthemes nested inside the Argenport decks.  Sacrifice is one that is pretty easy to add, although it will never be as strong as the Stonescar variety.  The one things Justice does have over Fire are revenge creatures.  Cards likes Stalwart Silver wing, can become playable if there are enough synergies.

Subthemes – Mentor

Mentor is a Justice/Primal mechanic, but there are enough Justice units to make it a viable subtheme in Argenport.

Common Traps

The biggest trap for Argenport is playing too many weapons.  Unless they are all Copperhall Cudgel, if you have too many weapons you will find yourself staring at a hand full of swords with no units to put them on.  Also these cards:

Protect (Set1 #132)
Swear Vengeance (Set2 #140)
Tinker Apprentice (Set1 #131)
Auric Vigilante (Set2 #233)
Piercing Grief (Set2 #143)
Threaten (Set2 #145)
Tinker (Set2 #75)
Fencing Master (Set2 #81)
Spur On (Set2 #152)
Trigger-Happy (Set2 #153)
Bronze Cuirass (Set1 #148)
Champion of Vengeance (Set2 #237)
Shard of the Spire (Set2 #85)
Valkyrie Militant (Set2 #89)
Umbren Thirster (Set2 #165)
Aerialist’s Khopesh (Set2 #95)
Cabal Rogue (Set2 #168)
Sleepless Night (Set2 #170

Some of these cards ARE playable, just not in Argenport.  Feel free to tell me why I’m incredibly wrong in the comments.

Removal:  As much as you can get, as long as its premium removal.  If its Spirit Drain something went wrong.
