Hello, Everyone!  It’s a big day here at JankJunction.  We’ve surpassed our 500 submissions milestone (555 at the time of this post)!  Is this Data the 100% Unfallible Eternal Draft Bible?  No.  Can we use it to learn new things and explore the format?  Yes!!!

We’ve got 99 problems, but 7 wins isn’t one.

Number of Wins

  • Zero
  • One
  • Two
  • Three
  • Four
  • Five
  • Six
  • Seven

We’ve got some serious bias going on with the number of wins here.  The number of 7-wins curiously spiked after I tweeted LSV.

However, he continues to deny that he has been submitting decks, which means that the problem lies elsewhere.  Most likely we’re dealing with a bias relating to people getting to 7-wins, and then going Hey!  I should submit this!  And I get that, but we really need everyone to be submitting ALL of their results.

We also need more variety in users of the draft project.

While I greatly appreciate Childroland and mann_und_mouse for their prodigious contributions, that data is vulnerable to personal drafting bias.  Let me give you an example.

Troll Power Lies Within!

I’ve submitted 90% of the decks containing Stoneshaker.  I had been looking at the data at around 400 submissions when I noticed stone shaker had a few entries with a decent win rate.  At the same time, Alluring Ember got its second submission.  I was excited because that meant it would fall off the top of the results because it wasn’t likely to get another 7-wins.  Right?  Wrong.  2 submissions, 2 7-win runs.  My curiosity was obviously piqued and I dashed off to force a Stoneshaker Warp deck.

7-2 Forcing Stoneshaker Warp

That was a fluke right?  Let’s try again.

7-2 Praxis Splash Crown

Well, that doesn’t count because we obviously won on the back of Obliterate and Xenan Obelisk.  Run it back!  Spoiler we ran it back went 7-3, but I’m an idiot and can’t take screenshots correctly.  At this point, I messaged Craig, my jank partner in crime.  He had been struggling in draft so I told him to just force praxis warp.

Warp Rekt

7-0 the Dream

Now some of the experienced drafters reading this are probably thinking, “Duh, Praxis is great!”  And they aren’t wrong, but I had thought Praxis was good because of Purify and the ability splash powerful cards (also Cannonbearer).  And while that is one successful strategy, it turns out forcing warp at that moment in time was viable too.

So what have we learned?  That you should force Praxis warp every time? No. Further testing resulted in 5-3, 4-3, 1-3, 0-3 results.  Did we learn that 1-2 people can skew the results of a particular card?  Yes.

Sadly the plugin we were using for tables was slowing down the rest of the site to an unbearable degree.

Learn to use the data!

That’s it for today!  If you find anything interesting buried in the data let us know!  Be sure to check out the rest of our draft guides and to get notified of when new articles are posted!

  1. Hey, I just found this site and love this. Any possibility that we could have a more recent post like this for the stuff since Dusk Road was released? Thanks in advance!
