Hey, everyone!  The Tales of Horus Traver have descended upon the meta and wrought a moopacolyptic whirlwind that even Sandstorm Titan can’t withstand.  Let’s take a look at what the new expansion has brought to the table.

Much like online recipes, feel free to skip to the good stuff.  Videos and decklists come after this wall-o-text.

The Motley Moo

They may not look like much, but… Hah!  Who am I kidding.  These bad-cows are amazing and they came to PLAY.

The least exciting of the bunch is Copperhall Paladin.  A 3/4 for 4JJ with Lifelink is a fine rate, but nothing to write home about.  The trinket text of ramping when you play a weapon is interesting.  The deck does need lots of power once tavrod hits the board and Argenport is pretty lacking in the ramp department.  We could play Marshall Ironthorn, but until the print Mark of the Minotaur, he won’t likely make the deck.

Auric Interrogator is insanely good.  Even if you are unable to buff it you still have a 4/3 for 3SS which is very solid.  Once it gets 5 power we’re off to Value-Town.  Drawing a card every turn for 1 life is almost stupidly powerful.  Even outside of Argenport, curving this into Xenan Obelisk seems amazing.

And last, but certainly not least, we have the big mommy (daddy?) of them all.  Tavrod, Auric Broker.  I think the community as a whole has decided he is the next coming of Sandstorm Titan in terms of how pushed the card is.  I predict a future /r/eternalcardgame filled with, “Tavrod is so Broken!  What were Direwolf Digital thinking!”  I’m pretty sure all they were thinking was, “OH MY GOD THIS IS SO AMAZING!!”  Seriously if you haven’t purchased the expansion yet please do so now.  It’s a great value and this card is so fun to play with.

Tavrod requires an immediate answer and the list of cards that are up to the task is fairly short (for fun open up your collection and just scroll until you find the first card that can deal with this cow):

The list IS longer than I initially thought, but of those cards, only a few see any play currently.  Enough of how to deal with the beast though, let’s figure out what deck Tavrod belongs in!

DeckTechs + Games

I started off with a very basic Minotaur brew with one of the new weapons.  I wasn’t super impressed with dueling pistols.  I wish it cost 3 so you could play it right after Auric Bully hits the board.  The deck was fine, but won mostly on the back of Tavrod.  We can do better!

Decklist

Next up we have Reanimootaur.  Not only is it the greatest deck name I’ve come up with so far it’s also really fun.  The deck plays out like a normal midrange minotaur deck, but with an added extra punch at the top end with Grinva and Vara.

9 Shadow Sigil (Set1 #249)
4 Argenport Banner (Set2 #231)

Decklist

This is by far my favorite of the three decks.  After playing with Reanimootaur I realized how insane Shard of the Spire would be with our buffed cowfolk.  The jury is still out on whether or not it is just a win more card.  I do think it warrants a spot as a 1-of in any Tavrod deck though.  I think if I were to continue playing this list, I would remove the Copperhall Shieldman in favor of Minotaur Grunt.

MinoShards

  • Eternal Warcry Decklist
  • Shiftstone Cost – 43,550 (not quite accurate due to Campaign cards)
  • Deck Archetype – Midrange
